CHASSAGNE
and
ALICANTE
aka SOCIETE GENERALE TWINS

Built in 1995 (completed in march) on the edge of La Défense, these twins towers (which are the tallests buildings of the district on the south of the Arche, at 167m each) are real landmarks, and are truly among the world's best looking twin towers, in spite of their relativly low height (a bit more than a third of the famous Petronas Twins in Kuala Lumpur).

The only tenant of these towers is the Société Générale, a major french and european bank. Since the orignal height of these towers -above 200m- was changed because it was too high, the bank logically needs more space (the twins already host 5400 employess of the bank) and plans to build a 3rd tower, taller than these (supposily around 190m) , to be completed around 2005. This tower, granite , could become the tallest building of La Défense.

The Société Générale is alsopresent in some other buildings, like the Tour Ariane, or Coeur Défense.

Separated by 40 meters, they are among the only buildings in La défense that don't have a flat roof (with Europlaza and Athena) and moreover it has -sometimes- a particular lightning with two ray of light.

One of the particularities of these towers are the lift landing's : in one of them, it's in white stone of Chassagne, and in the other one in red marble of Alicante. This is the reason why the towers are named Chassagne and Alicante.
